The Postal History of Dubai
The postal history of Dubai started in 1909 when the first Branch
Office was opened by the Indian
Postal Administration. After the division of India, the Branch Office was
taken over by Pakistan
Postal Administration. On April 1, 1948. British
Postal Administration took over the control of the post office. Dubai took
over control of the postal services on June 14, 1963. On August 1, 1972,
the postal service of the United Arab Emirates was united under a Federal
Decree and the General Post Administration was established under the Ministry
of Communications. Stamps of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi overprinted with
the words "UAE" in Arabic and English were used in Dubai till the first
set of the UAE were issued by the General Postal Administration on January
1, 1973.
